Valentine’s
Day in Spanish-Speaking Countries: For Love and Friendship
Chocolate, flowers, dinner,
dancing, and most of all love. Everywhere you look on Valentine’s Day you can
see love-birds holding hands and trading sweet poems and gifts, and friends
exchanging Valentine’s cards, balloons and hugs. Valentine’s Day can be
celebrated by all and in many different ways, depending on where you are in the
world.
In most of South America,
Valentine’s Day is known as “Love and Friendship Day”. This special day is not
just for lovers! Many groups of friends exchange Valentine’s cards and gifts
and later go out for dinner, all in the name of friendship.
In Spain, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in much the same way
as in the U.S. and the U.K. But many people also celebrate “El día del libro y
la rosa” on April 23 in which men give their special lady a rose and she gives
him a book in return.
Colombia celebrates Valentine’s Day on September 20, where it
is very popular to send gifts from secret admirers.
Bolivia also favors September for its day of love,
celebrating the love and friendship on September 21 in conjunction with
Students’ Day, Day of Spring, and Children’s Day. It is common to give cards,
flowers, chocolates, and teddy bears to friends, family, and loves.
No matter where you are, Valentine’s Day is a day for
love and friendship and a great time to show those you love how you feel.
Difference between love and friendship valentines
Valentine's Day 14 February
What is Valentine's Day? St
Valentine's Day is an annual festival to celebrate romantic love, friendship
and admiration. Every year on 14 February people celebrate this day by sending
messages of love and affection to partners, family and friends. Couples send
Valentine's Day cards and flowers and spend special time together to honour
their love for each other.
The Early History of Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day is named
after Saint Valentine, a Catholic priest who lived in Rome in the 3rd Century.
There are many stories about St Valentine and over time these stories grew into
the legend we know today. Devoted to Rome and therefore passed a law preventing
them from marrying. St Valentine began to marry these soldiers in secret
Christian ceremonies and this was the beginning of his reputation for believing
in the importance of love.
Eventually Valentine was found
out and jailed for his crimes against Claudius. While imprisoned, Valentine
cared for his fellow prisoners and also his jailor's blind daughter. Legend has
it that Valentine cured the girl's blindness and that his final act before
being executed was to write her a love message signed ‘from your Valentine'.
Valentine was executed on 14 February in the year 270.
Valentine's Day Symbols
The practice of sending
love messages developed into people sending special cards expressing their
affection. These cards were beautiful creations handmade by the sender and
individually designed to show how much they loved the recipient. Cards would
usually contain sentimental verse, proclaiming the beauty of the receiver and
how much they were loved.
Colombia’s
Day of Love and Friendship
The rest of the world
celebrates Valentine’s Day on 14 February, but Colombia has never been one to
go with the flow. Rather, on the Day of
Love and Friendship,
citizens go a little loopy sending love letters, exchanging gifts, and
indulging in a bout of ‘secret friend’ (known to the rest of the world as Secret
Santa, whereby gifts are anonymously given to one’s designated person along
with clues as to one’s identity).

Many satanic and occult groups have taken on October 31 as the most important date in your calendar. This day is called the day of "Festival of Death" and is the eve of the new year for witchcraft.Satanists say the most important for the followers of the evil day is Halloween. On this night the hidden satanic powers and witchcraft at your highest power level. Satan and his powers are at their strongest point tonight.Halloween is directly linked to the occult. It is a fact recorded and documented that on the night of October 31 in Ireland, the United States and many Latin American countries black masses, spiritualist cults and others related to the bad and the occult meetings are held.Making a simple analysis, it is clear the negative connotation of the images that "decorate" cards, posters, stickers and costumes related to Halloween. Salta at a glance that the message of love, charity, peace and hope that brought us our Lord Jesus Christ is fully divorced from these bloody images that portray witches, witches, walking dead, vampires and other monsters that have nothing constructive. Halloween is, in itself, a "celebration" of evil. Halloween has its roots in Samhain, the festival where the Celts of Ireland and Great Britain announced the end of summer and the arrival of the "New Year". The participants wore masks and made bonfires to scare away evil spirits. Animal sacrifices were also made."Halloween today is, above all, big business"
